Rachel Hagfors, LCPC, NCC, CCATP

Credentials: Rachel is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with IDFPR. She is also a board certified therapist through NBCC and is recognized as a National Certified Counselor. Rachel received her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she was a recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Award. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from DePaul University.
Prior to founding Grey Area Therapy, Rachel’s background included working in community mental health in a university college counseling center and in private practice, where she gained extensive experience working with both individuals and couples- both in person and via telehealth.
At Grey Area Therapy, Rachel specializes in working with clients struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, major life transitions, relationship issues (family, friend, and intimate relationships), OCD, panic disorder, depression, and supporting other helping professionals such as therapists, teachers, and doctors. She enjoys working with folks in high-stress and demanding jobs and exploring boundaries and desired life balance. Rachel utilizes an integrative approach of CBT, ERP, ACT, DBT, and Narrative Therapy. Her approach is client-led, collaborative, values-driven, and direct.
In addition to being a practice owner and therapist, Rachel also works at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology as an adjunct professor helping shape the education of the future of our counseling field.
Rachel has completed various trainings in relationship work, including completing Level 1 Gottman training, Emotional Focused Therapy for high-conflict couples, and training on working with couples with infidelity. Rachel is also a CCATP (Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional).
Rachel is a member of the American Counseling Association and Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association.
Rachel is a Chicago Native. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling to new cities, trying challenging baking recipes, reading (especially for book club), taking fitness classes, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and senior kitty.
