Meet Josie Hanson
Josie Hanson, LSW
Associate Therapist
She/Her/Hers

Prior to joining Grey Area Therapy, Josie worked in an outpatient behavioral health setting as well as a homeless shelter, where she gained experience working with individuals and families.
During this time, she worked with individuals of all ages, cultures, socio-economic statuses, and gender identities. She has served clients with a variety of needs such as anxiety, depression,
OCD, life transitions, trauma, and eating disorders.
Josie acknowledges that it can be challenging to take the first steps towards committing time and effort to healing and improving your mental health. For this reason, her approach to therapy is focused on taking time to first build a safe, trusting relationship with each other before jumping in the deep end together. Josie aligns with the belief that you are the expert of your own story, and her role is to act as a partner in exploring your strengths and needs. Josie uses a mixture of modalities in session including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and exposure and response therapy.
Josie enjoys working with individuals and couples at Grey Area Therapy, providing both in-person and telehealth services. Some of her clinical interests include working with young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, vocational stress, relationship issues, and life transitions. She also has a special interest working with individuals who identify in the LGBTQ+
community.
Outside of work, Josie enjoys reading, journaling, and traveling. Since she is originally from Southern Illinois, she enjoys spending her free time exploring the city of Chicago and finding new hidden gems.
